Churchill Downs Incorporated Supports Equine Aftercare through Giving Tuesday Donation Match to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program

LOUISVILLE, KY., (November 30, 2023) – Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) celebrated Giving Tuesday with a $20,000 donation match to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program (New Vocations) on behalf of CDI’s nine Thoroughbred and Standardbred racetracks* across the US. New Vocations raised $25,424 through their Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign and with CDI’s match, a total of $45,424 to support their mission to rehabilitate, retrain and rehome incredible equine athletes through their impactful services.

“CDI is thrilled to announce our successful match donation of $20,000 to bolster New Vocations’ holiday giving campaign.” said Cathy Shircliff, Director of Equine Industry Relations for CDI. “As proud advocates of equine aftercare, we know this donation will further the work of New Vocations to provide more options for Thoroughbred and Standardbred owners and trainers as their beloved horses transition to post racing careers.”

As the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, New Vocations serves more than 500 horses each year. Since their founding in 1992, they have successfully carried out their mission and placed more than 8,000 retired racehorses in adoptive homes, with many going on to second and third athletic careers. With eight facilities across five states, they continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of post racing options and with adopters to find perfect homes for deserving Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds.

“We are very thankful for Churchill Downs Incorporated’s generous match to support our Giving Tuesday campaign,” shared Anna Ford, New Vocations Program Director. “We are happy to be able to provide our aftercare services to all of the CDI racetrack properties. The campaign will help us raise the much-needed funds to cover the increase in costs we have seen due to the influx of horses coming into the program this year.”
