NEW KENT, Va. (March 25, 2026) — To commemorate the 2026 Virginia Derby and in furtherance of its commitment to community partnership across the Commonwealth, Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI), owner and operator of Colonial Downs Racetrack and Rosie’s Gaming Emporiums, today announced charitable contributions to six nonprofit organizations serving communities throughout Virginia.

Each organization received a $10,000 donation and was honored during a special trackside ceremony at Colonial Downs Racetrack on Virginia Derby Day.

The six recipient organizations include:

  • Peter Paul RVA (Richmond) – empowering children and families through education and community programs
  • Henry County Public Schools (Henry County) – advancing educational excellence and student opportunity
  • Patriots for Disabled Divers (Northern Virginia) – providing therapeutic scuba diving experiences for disabled veterans
  • Dream Catchers (James City County) – delivering equine-assisted services that promote healing and personal growth
  • My Sister’s Hope (New Kent County) – supporting vulnerable populations, including single mothers experiencing housing or food insecurity
  • The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at The Up Center (Hampton Roads) – providing accessible mental health services to veterans, service members, and their families

“The Virginia Derby is a one-of-a-kind celebration of the Commonwealth of Virginia, its people, and its communities,” said Aaron Palmer, Director of Virginia Government Relations. “These organizations do tremendous work each and every day to support our fellow Virginians, and Churchill Downs Incorporated is proud to recognize, celebrate, and support them on this exciting day of racing and camaraderie.”

Each nonprofit plays a unique role in strengthening Virginia communities—from expanding access to education and youth development programs, to supporting veterans through innovative therapies, to addressing critical needs like mental health care, housing stability, and family support services.

CDI upholds a long tradition of corporate social responsibility, with a focus on advancing the equine industry and supporting meaningful health and human services. Through its Rosie’s Gives Back program, the company has contributed more than $5 million in monetary and in-kind donations to Virginia nonprofits.

The 2026 Virginia Derby was held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent, Virginia, drawing 9,700 fans. As Virginia’s only qualifying race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, the event saw Incredibolt secure a spot in the field for the 152nd Kentucky Derby.
