William E. Mudd
President and Chief Operating Officer
William “Bill” E. Mudd was named President and Chief Operating Officer in September, 2015. Mudd joined Churchill Downs Incorporated ("CDI") in 2007 as the company's Executive Vice President and CFO, until he was promoted to the role of President & CFO in 2014 where he focused on operating and growing the Company's casinos, racing properties, including the Kentucky Oaks & Kentucky Derby, and its TwinSpires.com business. In his prior role as CFO, Mudd was responsible for all of CDI's financial activities including capital management, financial reporting, treasury, investor relations, financial planning and analysis, financial compliance, enterprise risk management and, since 2011, leading the Company's business development activities.
Mudd began his career with General Electric in 1992 where he was a graduate of the Experienced Financial Management Program and was certified as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. During his fifteen year tenure, Mudd served in a variety of financial and operational roles, both domestic and international, across a number of industries.
A native of Marion County, Ky., he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and actuarial science from Bellarmine University, has an MBA from Webster University and spent 14 years in the United States Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Captain. Mudd has served as a Trustee of Bellarmine University since 2012 and on the Norton Healthcare Finance & Core Operations Committee since 2010. He lives in Louisville, Ky., with his wife and children.
