Calder Casino & Race Course Donates $25,000 to the Red Cross

Calder Casino & Race Course showed its continued partnership and support with the American Red Cross with a $25,000 donation in support of the Red Cross AmeriCorps program, whose members respond to local disasters and teach our community to prepare for and prevent disasters.

“This significant donation helps the Red Cross to better prepare our community for the dangers of hurricane season and to prevent disasters such as house fires that affect hundreds of South Florida families each year,” said Sam Tidwell, CEO of the American Red Cross South Florida Region. “We’re thankful for the strong support that Calder Casino & Race Course has shown to the Red Cross over the years and we look forward to many more years of collaboration.”

In addition, Calder is welcoming the AmeriCorps team members and American Red Cross Emergency Response leaders as presenters at its Hurricane Preparedness Seminar, which is open to the entire community on Aug. 18 from 6-7 p.m..

Red Crossers will be on-hand to discuss the best ways of preparing for hurricane season, when to buy supplies for the season, and what to do after the storm.  There will be a drawing for hurricane kits, Marlins and Dolphins tickets and cases of bottled water.

The Special guest will be City of Miami Gardens Mayor, Shirley Gibson.

Previously, Calder was the presenting sponsor for the 2010 American Red Cross Golf Tournament. During 2005’s busy hurricane season Red Cross volunteers provided meals to Calder employees who dutifully remained in the stalls to care for race horses during and after the storm.
