Churchill Charities Selects New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program as Recipient of Pony Up For Charity Proceeds from Downs After Dark

The Churchill Downs Incorporated Foundation (“Churchill Charities”) today announced it will continue its new charitable initiative, Pony Up For Charity, this Friday, July 1, at Downs After Dark. Racing fans and customers will again be offered a way to show their support for horses, people and their communities through Churchill Charities’ Pony Up For Charity.  Proceeds from this week’s Pony Up For Charity will be designated to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.

Customers may elect to ask their server to add or “Pony Up” a dollar or more to their food and beverage tab.  Customers who contribute will receive a commemorative sticker, “I PONIED UP FOR CHARITY” with the Churchill Charities black and red horse head logo.

“Pony Up For Charity was launched two days after the tornado touched down on the backside of Churchill Downs and raised more than $8,000 to assist stable-area storm victims,” Churchill Downs Incorporated Vice President and Executive Director of Churchill Charities Liz Harris said. “While we are all grateful no injury befell the horses or people that reside in our backstretch, many personal effects were lost. Churchill Charities is pleased to contribute funding to help return storm victims’ lives to normal.”

This week’s beneficiary, New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program, works to aid noncompetitive, often injured racehorses by providing a peaceful environment and skilled hands to assist in their development as pleasure mounts and to place these horses in experienced loving homes that will continue their education.

Churchill Downs will conclude is summer series of Downs After Dark events this Friday with “The White Party” presented by Budweiser Select.  Guests are encouraged to wear all-white apparel.  Admission gates  open at 4 p.m. EDT with live racing beginning at 5 p.m., one hour earlier than normal. Entertainment, including live music featuring DJ Irie, will be offered through midnight at the track. General admission to Downs After Dark is $10. An additional Downs After Dark event will be held during Churchill Downs’ 2011 Fall Meet on Friday, Nov. 18.
